Mission and Vision

The mission of Functional Self Care™ is to dismantle diet culture by using evidence-based approaches to improve health and wellness. We do this by promoting a compassionate, mindful approach to fitness over perfectionism or guilt, empowering individuals to take control of their health.

What We Offer

Participants receive individualized assessments and goal setting. During the intervention, participants learn to focus on body cues to enhance attention-monitoring skills for supporting sustained physical activity.
Participants will learn embodiment skill development to tune into their physical and emotional experiences. By integrating mindful stretching, attention-monitoring, and reflection into the physical activity sessions, the program emphasizes the connection between movement and overall well-being.
During the cooldown period, participants will be asked to reflect on their long-term health goals to reinforce motivation by connecting daily actions with personal values.

Who Can Participate?

Functional Self Care™ welcomes individuals of all genders and racial or ethnic backgrounds, aiming for a diverse participant population reflective of the local community. Participants eligible for the Functional Self Care™ Program are adults aged 18 to 85 with a BMI between 30 and 40. They must be available for sessions between 9:00 AM and 4:00 PM and have reliable personal or public transportation.

Individuals are excluded if they are under 18 years old, unavailable during program hours, lack transportation, exceed the 350-pound weight limit (due to equipment limitations), or have conditions that contraindicate physical activity or program engagement. While participants may have comorbid conditions such as hypertension or type 2 diabetes, they should not have physical or psychological disabilities that prevent active participation.
